Services...

As part of your personal acoustic consultancy service, Grant Acoustics can offer the following assessments. If your requirements are not shown here then please contact us to discuss your needs.

NPPF: March 2012 "National Planning Policy Framework"
PPG24 was replaced by the NPPF in March 2012 and is now the basis on which noise for proposed planning applications should be considered. The introduction of this new Policy has caused some confusion as to which criteria should be considered for noise. Grant Acoustics can therefore help smooth the planning application process over in terms of noise, by liaising with relevant Authorities to clarify their criteria and undertake the appropriate assessment

BS8233:1999 “Sound Insulation and Noise Reduction in Buildings”
Once a site has been classified as being suitable for development, the Local Authority will have internal and external noise levels not to be exceeded. Using the above guidance, Grant Acoustics can undertake the required calculations to determine the mitigation necessary. This is normally related to the facade treatment such as glazing and ventilation specifications.

BS4142:1997 “Method for rating industrial noise affecting mixed residential and industrial areas”
Industrial noise assessments for new or existing plant / sources are normally compared against the criterion given in BS4142. Sometimes the Local Authority have their own criteria which is a variation of the Guidance, however this would be established through initial contact by Grant Acoustics to obtain their exact requirements

BS5228:2009 “Noise and vibration control on Open Sites”
The above guidance is used to calculate the impact of noise and vibration on construction sites or mineral works etc. Best Practicable Means advice is given to ensure that noise levels are kept to a minimum.

BS6472:2008 “Human response to vibration”
To determine whether there is a possibility of adverse comment to vibration affecting proposed development sites, measurements to establish the vibration dose values are usually undertaken for day and night periods. Sources of vibration may include construction activity and trains.

Calculation of Road Traffic Noise: 1988
Where new road networks or increases in road traffic are anticipated, then an assessment to predict the increase in noise levels based on traffic flow figures can be undertaken and the impact assessed on existing or proposed developments.
